Free things to do in Sheffield this Summer

Staying in Sheffield this summer? Here are a few fun, exciting, and most importantly, relaxing days out for you and your friends to enjoy during the break.

Only a 20-minute drive from Sheffield City Centre, Damflask Reservoir is an ideal location to spend a day walking with friends. The 3 ¼ mile route around the reservoir was completed in 2015 after an investment from Yorkshire Water and is accessible for all.  End your day out at the reservoir in Low Bradfield where you can grab some food in one of the cafes, or enjoy a relaxing drink in The Plough.

If you’re interested in Sheffield’s History, then the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is for you. In the 18th Century, it was the largest water-powered industrial site on the River Sheaf with workshops, tilt hammers, and a grinding hull. This is now the last complete surviving crucible steel furnace in the UK and the hamlet also has a range of workshops on site where you can practise your skills and make steel pieces to take home.

If you want to have a day away from the city centre, then a visit to Quayside Market is perfect for you. Wander around the market and explore all the fantastic food and drink options available including pizza and cocktails at True Loves. Amongst all the craft, food and drink stalls there is also live music and DJs day and night.

Attend the Out and About Weekends Paint Jam on the 6th and 7th of August to see unique masterpieces throughout the city. All you need to do is grab a map and follow the route through the city to experience work by some of the most talented Sheffield artists, all celebrating the city's heritage and communities.

Fascinated by the Sheffield's Industrial Story? Head down to the Kelham Island Museum to find out more about the pictures, objects and archives of the steel factories through the interactive galleries. Kelham Island Museum is one of several fantastic free museums across Sheffield and is perfect for a rainy day.
