Why should I start looking for 2026/27 student accommodation before the new year?

You may have seen a lot of student accommodation providers have released their available properties for the 2026/27 academic year, and as a Sheffield student accommodation provider, we are one of them. It might seem a bit early this side of Christmas, but now is the perfect time to sort next year's accommodation out.
Get first choice on your dream home
Whether location, house size, accommodation type or other features are your priority; the earlier you start looking, the more you won’t have to choose just the essentials. This time of the year is when the most properties are on the market, and you can take advantage of being the first to see brand-new listings before they’re snapped up.

Make the process smoother and stress-free
One of the biggest advantages of having your accommodation sorted, is the peace of mind you have going into the new year. After Christmas, university is often busy with exams and assessments, and the last thing you might want to do is organise your housing with just months to go.
It is also important to consider when you can carry out viewings. During the Christmas holidays, and summer holidays of 2026, a lot of students will not be available in Sheffield to view houses, and therefore it is important to get it signed, sealed and delivered while you are still in the city.
Explore a larger range of accommodation
The longer you leave it, the less houses there are available and that means you might have to compromise on some of your wants and needs for your new home. This gives you time to assess where you all want to live, what sort of property you want and find the perfect home with plenty of time before the 2026/27 academic year.
